Today I'd like to share one of the reasons I believe that Google should be considered one of the top leaders in design. Not only are their applications clean, well-designed, and easy to use, but they add sprinkles of fun throughout their work.
One of my favorite examples of this is the Google Doodle, a creative and entertaining way to tell users what's going on in the world around them. Today's Doodle features a "Beatles-esque" group of cicadas to celebrate the double brood this year.
As a Chicago native, I can attest that the cicadas are intense, with both the 17 and 13 year broods emerging at the same time this year. According to the Doodle, it's been over 200 years since the last time both breeds emerged on the same year.
It's fun little bits of design and information like these Doodles that add a nice "spice" to Google's clean and unique UX/UI design. These quirky additions throughout their website and branding show that they're not afraid to add a little extra fun and creativity to people's everyday lives.
